what an interesting xmas. my parents gave me vodka, knives, and bandaids. how fitting. since they gave it to me, am i allowed to drink it now? i did bring my flask with me...
after the 4loko era, it seems that regular liquor doesn't quite seem the same.
i said something out loud the other day. something i had never said before. but something that i believe whole-heartedly. i was sitting in a room with a lot of my colleagues and i was asked to present about one of my social identities. and i said "being gay saved my life". i hadn't really thought about it before but as soon as i said it, i knew it was true. i'm not sure that i would necessarily be dead, but i am 100% positive that i would not be living. when i was in high school, and even in my early years at UofM, i was extremely depressed and very self-destructive. i hated everything and everyone... including myself. if not for the amazing community of queer people i found, i would not be where i am today. i found a community that had my back no matter what - just because we had an identity in common. i found a community that allowed me to become an activist and a leader. it was a stepping stone to this new life i've created as someone who is passionate and who cares. if not for being gay, i wouldn't have had that community, that experience, or this life. it saved me. i am so grateful.
i know this isn't typical material for my blog, but it is something i needed to talk about. now time to go get back to the boozin.

tops, tequila, and trannies
apparently thoughtful drunk conversations are more of a summer thing. in the winter, we talk about how cold we are, how we don't want to walk in the snow, how we want to go on vacations, etc. now that we're back in the game, i suppose there is a lot of catching up to do.
i recently rediscovered the joy of having a bottom who really makes the sex good. i was talking to my roommate, a gay male top, about what makes the sex good or bad for him. in my head, he was sticking it in, moving it around, and getting it out. he started talking about how the bottoms words and actions really have an affect on how enjoyable it is for the top. it clicked, and i was like "OH DUH" its the same for lesbians. fucking a bottom who just sits there, no matter how hot she is, SUCKS! i don't care if i can get you off right away, i still won't enjoy it! to all of you bottoms out there; take some pointers. 1) being a bottom does not mean that there is only one position that should be utilized 2) make some noise, don't be ashamed 3) your facial expression says it all, so please try to be sexy 4) seriously, move around some - fight me for it because if i wanted you to be still, i'd tie you down 5) touch me. easy, right? well spread the word because some women (and men i'm sure) just don't get it.
moving on....
so everyone gets different drunk depending on what kind of alcohol they are drinking, right? for me, red wine makes me snuggly drunk, white wine makes me happy drunk, beer makes me "i'm so butch" drunk, vodka makes me drunk drunk, and tequila... well tequila makes me fuck-me-right-now drunk. apparently girls think its funny to buy me shots of patron because as long as they're near me approximately 10 minutes after i take it back, we'll probably hook up. should i be ashamed of this? a new friend recently told me that i shouldn't drink tequila in public. but old friends love me most when i'm jumping the closest hottie. i guess what i'm getting to here is the question of responsibility. is it my own responsibility to censor my liquor intake when i know that it will make me want to fuck right away? and is this really any different from any other homo and the friday night hotspot? until i get in trouble for public indecency, i think that i'm okay.
last but not least, i want to say something to all of the drunken ignorant assholes out there. when you are at gay night, and see someone who appears to have a sex and gender identity that don't necessarily match up, don't be rude. we're all a part of the same community so stop drinking, go home, educate yourself, then maybe we'll talk. or maybe i'll kick you in the balls. either way, go home.

not so drunk... just pensive
is it fair for the leaders of the lgbt movement to expect me to fight with all of my heart for the institution we commonly know as marriage? it is nearly impossible for me to put all of my passion into a fight that i don't even agree with. of course, i agree that lgbt persons deserve all of the same rights as straight people. however, marriage is one of those things that should be changed at the root. this shouldn't be done just for same-sex couples, but for any couple who does not believe in tying their relationship by the will of god. if i were to, one day, find a man who i found to be completely amazing and beautiful and fabulous and was somehow physically, emotionally, and sexually attracted to him, i would still not marry him. i should be able to receive the benefits that he has from his job and he should be able to come see me in the hospital when i am ill. these should not be rights given to me by a religious diety. so how can i possibly give everything to the fight for marraige equality when the root of the problem is so much deeper? there should be partner-benefit equality for all. this should not have to come from god.
i understand that the most influencial thing to fight for in terms of the lgbt community is something that is provided on a federal level. however, the things that matter to me are smaller, closer-to-home things. i want my children to be taught about love, not man+woman+children=family, i want them to feel safe in schools and not be afraid of bullying because they have two mommies. i want hate crimes to be identified differently than other violent crimes in my home state of michigan. and i want to not face discrimination in the workplace. how can i convince the head-honchos of the lgbt movement that these are the issues important to me and that these are the things we should be coming together and fighting for? i can't. so i have to keep going on the track of fighting for marriage with hopes that the eventual results will trickle down to helping me and my family in our struggle for equality.

7 Beers and the Boobie Game
so when you hook up with a friend's friend, are you supposed to talk about it with the friend? a few day's ago i fooled around with my friend sam's roommate. today sam and i were both at the bar, and we ended up hanging out for a while. i didn't know if i was supposed to say something to him about it or just pretend like it didn't happen. this is why the chart ruins me. being in a city where all of the gays know all of the other gays is not productive. tonight at the bar, i was with the best friend of someone i'm currently hooking up with, another girl who i've been on-and-off hooking up with for the past few months, and the roommate of a different girl who i hooked up with the other day. at this point, what is one to do? the friend who i went with also had to deal with a guy he had hooked up with about a year ago... and that guy's serious boyfriend. how do we branch out from such a connected community so that we don't create drama?

Cherry Popov, Miller Lite, and seven horny dykes
why is it that gay women and gay men are not supposed to be friends? every time i go out with a group of my gay men friends, i get asked if i am a fag hag (or my new favorite term for it, fruit fly). we are all a part of one community, arguably, so why can we not be part of one social circle?
